There are many issues that aren’t talked about in our society, and on today's episode of sexuality 101, we are going to be talking about masturbation. We know that men do it. But do women do it?
Masturbation is defined as the experience of any sexual sensation, with or without orgasm, from physical self-stimulation. But google defines it as stimulation of the genitals with ones hand for sexual pleasure. You may be wondering why i decided to post about this. The truth of the matter is that women do masturbate but are not really vocal about it. Frankly, i understand why. I get really awkward talking about it because its something unusual and i never really think about. Another reason why women do not talk about masturbating is because of the way we were raised. Sex is not really something we can talk about as families. we can talk about it with our friends and partners but not at home. So masturbation is something that one discovers on alone while satisfying their curiosity.
women masturbate for many reasons. and for Jada Pinkett Smith, she did it out of curiosity. This was heavily influenced by her grandmother who had a chat with her about self pleasure at the early age of nine years old. Some women masturbate to ease abdominal pains during menstruation. I saw a tweet about this not long ago and i thought it was absolute bogus, little did i know that it actually works. the feeling of relaxation and amazing orgasms helps clear out the pain. For other women, exploring with their own bodies helps them keep in touch with what turns them on sexually. Often times women talk about how men do not get them to climax. Experts say that women can assist their partners on how to get them there. And this can be done when one knows and understands ones body, therefore the best way to find out what makes you horny and ultimately have an orgasm is to experiment, play with yourself, have fun and MASTURBATE. You know how sometimes after a hot steamy sexual session with your partner, you get knocked out? masturbating has the same effect, the sense of relaxation achieved after self pleasure help one get a peaceful nights rest. So if you come home from work tired as hell, you know what to do to help you relax and sleep like a baby.

In as much as women are encouraged to masturbate it has its negative effects, the most obvious one being that it is addictive. I have never heard anyone talking about their sexual addiction, but i suppose its because they keep it a secret. i mean, i would not want people to know that like to constantly get down and dirty. One other thing is that one could get infections from the sex toys they use or when they practice unhygienic masturbation. Furthermore, using ones sex toys with multiple partners could increase the risk of sexual infections. Another thing, is that it can ruin ones sex life with ones partner if done frequently. at this point nothing sexually satisfies you except for yourself. In as much as it may be amazing, i think nothing beats the real deal. if you know what i mean.
i conducted a twitter poll not so long ago to find out if women do masturbate and out of my 39 followers (embarrassing i know) 86% of women admitted to masturbating and stating that they enjoy it, but only 14% said they do not do it and think its disgusting.
In closing, its okay to masturbate for the reasons stated above. But its also not okay because of the negative effects that come with it. Me, i say, experiment away, explore your sexual desires and understand yourself.
